It is a look at the people who were Rhodesians. A people who formed an identity and tradition, albeit too late, just in time for both to become irrelevant.

A basic theme of the book is that Rhodesians entered the war in a more divided state than many of them appreciated and that, while they appeared to unite in fighting a lost cause and a losing war, the crises of the 1970's revealed, sharpened, and triggered cleavages within White society. The boast of 'Rhodesians Never Die' was as much an act of defiance as an affirmation of reality or a declaration of intentions.
