his tracing drawn in 1889 is the only map showing the old "Jock" post trails from Lyndenberg to Delagoa Bay, as well Kaapsehoop through to Barberton.
The old French Store and Bill Sanderson's Farm, were purchased by the Dell family in 1925 where the original map was found in a Rosewood cabinet. After the death of Charlie Dell in 1978 the original map was recovered, steamed open and framed.
Most significant fact that this map shows is that the name of "Koppie" is Lekokots or Lozies Kop, while today it is common ly known as Lions Head or Legogoto. These current names come from shape of the mountain and misinterpretation of the African name Legogoto (meaning "knocking place") into Lekokots.
During the days of Sir Percy Fitzpatrick and Jock of the Bushveld, Chief Lozie used to make the riempies for the ox-wagons and the old fig tree that he used to stretch and dry these riempies is still to be found at the base of Legogoto.
This is NOT the original map itself but a high resolution scan, printed on canvas. Our late SA Director was allowed to make one copy and one copy only of the map - this is it.
The orignal is believed to hang in a Museum in Pretoria.
This is a unique and on-of-a-kind copy of the original map. It shows in minute detail the contours and details of the area and noting has been lost in its production from the original.
