The Author

Barry Wardle was born and raised in South Shields. He served a five year apprenticeship as a Marine Fitter and then joined the Merchant Navy visiting Japan, Singapore. Hong Kong and Australia.

After he married, he and his wife emigrated to South Africa, and then moved to Rhodesia where he volunteered for the Police Reserve and then the Police Anti Terrorist Unit. The author's two children were both born in Rhodesia.

When independence was granted in Rhodesia, the family moved back to the UK. However Barry found it hard to settle. He went to Angola with his second wife, Maureen, and worked in the Diamond Mines as a mechanical foreman. He then worked in Guinea, again on the Diamond Mines, as a Plant Maintenance Superintendent. Maureen travelled with him on both occasions.
